Game Recap 1-27

Cypress Falls vs. Jersey Village

After an outstanding non-district campaign the Eagles opened district play at home on a cold and misty night this past Tuesday against the Jersey Village Falcons. The Eagles took control early (with a little help from a 20 mile per hour wind from the north) and dominated the run of play for a large majority of the first half. Cypress Falls out-shot the Falcons by a margin of 7 to1 in the first forty forcing the Jersey Village keeper to come up big on several occasions. The Eagles scored the first and only goal of the match off of a great build up of play: Orlando Saldana played a spot on cross to Alan Cuevas who was having a run up the back side, upon reception of the cross Alan deposited a fine ball through the eighteen which was dummied by Ricky Paul Mupier and put away nicely by forward Josh Alcedo. The lone goal would prove to be enough as the home team controlled the mid-field and the defensive third in the second half to limit Jersey Village to three second half chances, only one of which tested Goalkeeper Suarez. Suarez, and the back four combination of John Garcia, Jimmy Cruz, Adrian Garcia, and Orlando Saldana did a fantastic job to record the Eagles fourth shut-out in six games and the first in district play. Good job and get it done on Friday!

The Cypress Falls Boys Soccer Newsletter: For the weeks of January 22-26

What a busy time for the Cypress Falls Soccer Program. After completion of the tournament and non-district schedule the boys are looking forward to the opening of district play this evening against Jersey Village at the Cypress Falls soccer complex. This week’s newsletter contains some information regarding t-shirts, gratitude, recent construction, and the all important game recaps.

T-Shirts: This is your last chance to order the Cypress Falls Adidas t-shirts, but as always the Cypress Falls Booster club has a plethora of eagle gear (hoodies, blankets, etc.) for purchase. Please contact the schools athletic secretary for ordering information.

Gratitude: The teams and coaching staff would like to thank all of the Eagle supporters for their support during the last two weeks. The crowds have been loud and proud but also respectful of everyone on the pitch. Thank you supporters!

Construction: A bulk of the work that has been taking place in and around the soccer complex is finally wrapping up. They are done with the roofing and we are anxiously awaiting the finishing touches on the scoreboard so fans can keep up with all of the goals being scored by their favorite Eagle teams.

Game Recaps:
The Winter Warm-Up:
-The Eagles stepped on the field the night of January 16 not quite knowing what to expect. Their opponent, the Aldine Mustangs were the 2008 19-5A district champs but had lost one or two key players to their 2009 campaign. The Eagles were not let down. The Mustangs were a very technical group that played with a great deal of pace that kept the rhythm of the game high. In both halves Cypress Falls and Aldine both created several good scoring chances but after 80 minutes of soccer, 10 shots a side, and several good saves by the Eagles’ keeper Kevin Suarez the game ended in a stalemate, 0-0.
-The next day the Eagles meet a Spring High team that had knocked off district rivals, The Langham Creek Lobos, the night before. The Eagles however were ready to play and opened up scoring early with two goals from Ricky Paul Mupier in the first half. Ricky would go on to net one early in the second half to complete the hat trick. With the midfield being lead by Elias Cortes and Ezri Soto the Eagles opened up several scoring chances and converted on two, a brilliant header by sophomore Mike Diaz and a penalty kick by Braulio DeLaCruz. Goalkeepers Kevin Surez and Enzo Ramos kept things together in the back to get the Eagles their second clean sheet in a row. Final: 5-0.

Cypress Falls vs. Nederland
-A great team effort resulted in the eagles getting their 5th win of year and staying unbeaten at home. A feisty Nederland team kept the game tight till the finish but the boys in green finished what they started and came away with a 5-2 victory. Elias Cortes, Ricky Paul Mupier, Josh Alcedo, Oscar Camacho, and Mike Diaz all contributed with goals and Fonize Diaz and Luis Ramirez did some nice work off the bench in the second half to preserve the win for Cy Falls.

The Cypress Falls Boys Soccer Newsletter:

Varsity Tournament Summary:
This year the CFISD Invitational tournament turned out to be bigger and better than ever. Some of the best teams in Houston were represented in this sixteen team tournament which was held at several of the district locations including Cypress Falls and The Berry Center. Cypress Falls hosted the Green Bracket both Thursday and Friday nights and the action was intense as five of the six games that were held here were decided by a one goal differential. In the opening game the Eagles were playing the regionally ranked (10th Region III) Seven Lakes Spartans to a 0-0 tie with 5 minutes left in the first half when a Felix Gonzales shot deflected off of the Seven Lakes keeper and was tucked away into the net by sophomore Damir Turko. The boys in green stepped up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded with several great scoring opportunities but didn’t put the game out of reach until Braulio DelaCruz scorched a left footed finish into the goal in the 60th minute. The Spartans converted a PK in the waning minutes to tighten the game up but the Eagles stayed on top to move to 1-0 for the season. It was Eagles vs. Eagles in the second match for Cy-Falls as they played the Atascosita Eagles in a match that would see the Green net one 27 minutes into the first half on an outstanding direct kick (think Roberto Carlos) from Brian Vasquez and a second half goal from John Torres to preserve the second win for The Falls in spite of a goal and an outstanding effort from Atascosita. At 2-0 the boys could have rested and just cruised into the second round but the green and white were motivated to continue their quality play with a game against perennial play-off powerhouse Deer Park. Right from the first whistle the boys played their best soccer of the early season. The eagles dominated the run of play in the first half with Ricky Paul Mupier netting his first of the season and several near misses from Josh Alcedo and Elias Cortes. The Eagles defense, lead by Goalkeepers Kevin Surez and Enzo Ramos, were able to capture their first clean sheet of the year as the Eagles won 1-0 and moved to three wins and zero losses for the year. On Saturday the Eagles dropped their first match of the year losing to Hightower 2-0. Although they were able to maintain the run of play for large portions of the game the Eagles were not able to hold off a late surge by the Hurricanes as Hightower scored twice in the final 5 minutes of play to wrap up the Championship. Cypress Falls wrapped up the weekend with three wins and one loss, a runner up trophy, and two players; Orlando Saldana and Kevin Surez, getting named to the all tournament team. Overall a great weekend for the Eagles

January 5-10 Newsletter:

The Cypress Falls Boys Soccer Newsletter:
For the week of January 5-10

This is a first in a series of newsletters that will be issued to the players throughout the season. If you would like an e-copy of this newsletter please e-mail Coach Napier at Kevin.napier@cfisd.net and asked to be added to the list.

The opening week of the season turned out to be a great success as the Eagles got of to a great start at the Klein Collins scrimmages. Both the JV and the varsity played teams from Klein Collins, Foster, and Cedar Park and came away unbeaten in six scrimmages. Both teams looked good and took advantage of the scrimmage format to work out some of the kinks as tournaments are right around the corner.

Please be advised that “The meet the eagles” team event that was scheduled for tonight has been postponed due to the reconstruction of the teaching theatre. The event will be held next Tuesday in the teaching theatre at 6:30. We invite all of our players families to come and attend this event where will introduce our teams, discuss team policies, introduce and discuss the booster club, and answer any questions that you might have. We will be serving pizza and it is asked that all players bring five dollars to help defer the cost of the meal.

WE NEED YOUR HELP: This week Cypress Falls High School is one of the host sites for the Fourth annual CFISD Invitational Soccer Tournament which involves 16 of the top teams in the area. Our host games are Thursday and Friday and we need help in running the concession stand. Members of the booster club will be there to help and all of the proceeds from concession sales go directly to Cypress Falls athletics. After looking at the JV and Varsity Tournament schedules on the back page please e-mail Coach Napier at Kevin.napier@cfisd.net and let him know what times you will be available for this weekend. (January 8-9) Even if it’s only an hour it goes along to helping support your athletes.

Thank you for your support of you athlete and the Cypress Falls Boys Soccer Program. As always, if you have any questions please contact Coach Napier at (713)320-5890 or Kevin.napier@cfisd.net.
